Boys Uniforms
Boys are to wear plain navy blue tailored dress pants. Pants must fit this description: in-seam pockets only, no patch pockets, no colored roll-ups, no ornamentation such as extra pockets, trendy cuts, contrasting stitching, rivets, or gathered ankles. Boys may not wear cargo pants. Pants must be worn at the natural waist line. A dark color dress belt must be worn with pants in grades 4-8.
Dress shirts (white or plain light blue) or knit shirts (with 2 or 3 buttons are to be plain light blue, navy blue, or white. Shirts may be either long or short sleeve, solid in color (no stripes, decorations, trimmings, logos, or labels), and must have a collar. Shirts must be tucked in at all times. No layering of shirts is permitted.
Girls’ Uniform
Girls in Kindergarten - Grade 4 are to wear the plaid or navy uniform jumper or plaid or navy short. Jumpers are to be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee. Girls in grades 5-8 may wear a plaid or navy skirt or plaid or navy short. Plaid jumpers, skirts and shorts are available at Lands' End (clear blue plaid) or Buckhead (plaid #76) online.
Shorts
All students may wear plain navy blue walking shorts. Shorts must be no more than 3 inches above the knee. The shorts must be worn with the regular uniform blouse or shirt neatly tucked in at all times. At no time is any other kind of shorts permitted unless we have a dress-down day. Shorts may be worn only in August-October and April-June and only as weather permit. A dark color dress belt must be worn with shorts in grades 4-8.
Shoes
All students are to wear low cut, durable, slip on or tie, loafer or oxford, school shoes with normal heels – 1 inch or less in height – (no ballet shoes, sandals, slip-ons or open toe shoes). Sturdy leather-type tennis shoes may be worn with uniforms (no canvas). Shoes must be tied at all times. Tennis shoes are usually the best option for students as they attend outdoor or gym recess daily.
Socks
All socks must be visible ½ inch above the shoe top all the way around the shoe including extended heels or tongues. If any part of the shoe is higher, the sock must be visible ½ inch above that part.
Sweaters
Sweaters for all students must be plain solid color (navy blue, light blue, or white) in either button-down or pullover style. Sweaters may not be oversized, bulky or have ornamentation (no stripes, decorations, trimmings, logos, or labels). Jackets of any kind or flannel shirts may not be worn. Only Saint Rose School sweatshirts may be worn. When pullover sweaters or the sweatshirts are worn, the collar of the uniform blouse or shirt must be showing. Saint Rose lightweight zipper jackets are appropriate in the classroom if weather permits. Hoodies are not permitted in the classroom except for 7th and 8th graders.
Make-up and Jewelry
No student is permitted to wear any type of make-up. Only clear nail polish may be worn. Students may wear a small cross or medal inside their shirts or blouses, a watch and no more than 2 rings. Girls only may choose to wear a pair of earrings but these must be small (stud-type, no hoops or dangles). No other jewelry or item of ornamentation (e.g. bells) is permitted.
Hair Styles
All students are to present themselves at all times with a neat hair cut and appropriate hair style. “Tails”, artificial coloring or highlights, or any other hair fads, like a “bowl cut”, shaved areas and/or designs are not permitted for any student. Boys’ hair may not touch their shirt collar nor may it hang to the eyebrow in the front. Students must have a traditional hair cut and style with no distinguishable difference in the length of their hair between the top and the bottom. If there is a question about a particular hair cut or style, parents should consult the principal before having the student’s hair cut or styled.
Gym Clothes
Students must wear plain red shorts (gym shorts may be worn to and from school only in August-October and April-June and only as weather permits) or plain red sweat/wind pants, a solid white, navy, gray, or red T-shirt (no writing or pictures other than the Saint Rose School cougar emblem), and appropriate gym shoes. Students in kindergarten-grade 2 may wear their gym clothes to school on gym day as their uniform for the day. A narrow white, black or gray stripe down the sides of shorts or sweats is permissible.
Electronic Devices
Electronic (or battery operated) devices of any type (phones, i-pods, etc.) (other than wrist watches or permitted calculators) are not to be visible or used during the school hours from 7:45-3:15. This includes during school day field trips by bus or walking. This excludes devices expressly permitted or provided by and used under the direction of SRS faculty. Electronic devices visible without express permission will be held at the office until they can be picked up by the students’ parent or guardian.
7th & 8th Grade
7th and 8th grade students are permitted to wear St. Rose hoodies and khaki slacks (plain, tailored dress pants with dark color dress belts) and khaki shorts (no more than 3 inches above the knee - with dark color dress belts) in addition to the regular uniform. Khaki (or navy) shorts may be worn only in August-October and April-June and only as weather permits.
