St. Rose School is a great school with classes from kindergarten through eighth grade. As our mission statement declares we are a caring nurturing community offering the highest educational advantages. We currently have a faculty of 21 and an enrollment of 271. We offer computer classes, art, music, and physical education as well as reading, math, and speech classes in the mobile unit. We have a nurse on staff for 4 hours per day. We still have a great reputation for delicious lunches served hot each day. We have many sports for students in grades K-8 as you can see on our sports link. Our student body and faculty attend weekly Mass as a school. We have a librarian twice a week with a library staffed with great current books. Our kindergarten is known for its learning stations run by parent volunteer. Honor roll begins in the fourth grade. From 50-60% of our students make the honor roll. Many of our students go on to be valedictorians and hold offices in the high schools. Many return to St. Rose School as parents sending their children. As always our Home and School and Boosters do a fantastic job supporting our school. We also have many parent and grandparent volunteers who work helping in our school.

Our children in grade 4 learn the recorder (formerly known as the flutaphone). Students in grades 4-8 play in the beginning, intermediate, and advanced bands. We have a music show with K-4 participating each year with songs and routines. We have an end of the year talent show with students from grades 3-8. We have a great music and liturgy director, Sister Nancy Pawlen. Sister plans weekly school Masses with various grade levels and plays her guitar at the Mass each week.

Our students participate in Power of the Pen whereby a play is created from the writings of a 4th grader as well as one from a 5th grader. Our 7th and 8th graders participate in Academic Challenge, Math-a-thon, Math Counts and English Festival. All of our students go on many educational field trips throughout the school year.

My cousins the Knight/Rubinic Families have their fourth generation attending St. Rose School. We (Garber/Wick/Ezzo/Jankowski) have our fourth generation attending. My mother Arlene Garber graduated in 1936. I graduated as Marsha Wick in the first graduating class of the new school in 1957. My first husband James Ezzo was also in my class. My children graduated in the 80's and now my granddaughter is in first grade and my grandson will attend kindergarten in the Fall. I have been teaching at St. Rose since 1963. I am currently the computer teacher and faculty tech trainer.

St. Rose School would love to hear from you. We would also encourage you to donate to our school. Your check can be made out to St. Rose School and put alumni fund at the bottom of your check. Your donations can be mailed to St. Rose School, 61 E. Main St., Girard, OH 44420 and your comments about our school can be sent to marsha.jankowski@neomin.org. This of course is tax-deductible but more importantly will help defray the many expenses required of private schools. As you know the government gives money to support education. As a private school, we get far less than public schools and thus the need is there for us to be creative with fund raisers.

Are there any other 4th generation families out there?? What about 3rd? 2nd? We would like to include histories on our website so please let us hear from you. We would love to hear from ALL of our alumni and what you are doing, fond memories of St. Rose, pictures then and now, etc.
Please keep us in prayer as we will you.
